Government to Blame

The cost of HS2 from London to Birmingham  has risen from £33 billion to £44 billion if the cost has risen so much how much could it be in ten years, £100 billion if it does then those who oppose it now  would be fully justified in their complaint about the cost being unaffordable. But if there is anybody  to blame then it is the government. John Redwood on Newsnight (25 June) said that it took major projects at least ten years to go through committees. This has again been proved right as Cross Rail in London has taken 25 years to come to fruition. So governments are the problem and the cause for cost increases in major projects, not the contractors.
