Multiculturalism

So Cameron has now agreed that multiculturalism has failed in Britain as he vows to confront Islamic extremists living here who reject Western values. He has now come to realise as have the hundreds of thousands of do-gooders who have for decades campaigned saying that it works, when 80% of the population knew that it didn't. Perhaps these same people should have listened 30 years ago to Ray Honeyford the headmaster from Bradford who said that Asian pupils might benefit if they learnt to speak English, hearing a bit about English history and being told what Britain was all about. For his opinion (in a so called free and Democratic country) he lost his job was hounded by the media and even investigated by the government of the day. His crime was to challenge the dominant philosophy behind all race relations of the time - multiculturalism. That meant that no single culture or set of values should be promoted above any other, that all were equal, should be respected and encouraged. Now many who would have been the first to condemn him at the time now agree with him including Trever Phillips head of the Equality and Human Rights Commission. and Tony Blair. Cameron is the latest convert, or is he just being cynical and jumping on anything that might help his failing Big Society theory.
